Hi
Just wanted to share a photo of my last gig with you, I think it looks great, it was taken by Stefan Duerr.
There are other which I'll post soon.
Cheers

heres a story,heres a thought too,
imagine you took a line totally extreme simplistic, drew it down the middle of society,on one hand the smug classes, the other a ferral class(if thats the term, all part of new greed anyway)either of them unlikely to want to change anything, isolated or not bothered.what does that leave?enough people to do anything?fill up this world with?
i dont like to think of society as polarised as that, surely people want to live as peacefull a life as they can,we must still have so much in common,i hope so,maybee theres just too much choice and not enough common family t.v. thread.(give us a twirl)
heres another thought, are the new systems of exploitation(global)large companys?not governments, are you supposed to vote with your money and who you shop with as opposed to the ballot?there was a clearly defined line between the parties, was it the idea to move away from the stalemate, well now its become a mush,a blur but the real power game is still underneath.sometimes it feels crazy, the new town, music pushed to the back of so called record shops, keep looking forward tho, experimentation, attitude the thing.the law seeming a joke, imagine no need for cctv,go on,think how free youd be.whats happening on the high street?too crowded,im feeling down lately, frustrated, feel like walking away from a lot of things, need an OUT-let.
but i know the thought to have in mind boy, enjoy everything, its perfect.
you know where youll always find me
oh that idylic dream, lit electric, that old fashioned feeling, that new feeling,my precious memories...laughs,a lot of em,a map out of the mess, yes, times of summer nights haze and sunsets.
now a records floated in,its bruce chanell and im thinking bout a lot of music, that jerry dammers is a folk hero,im thinking bout music knowledge and clout, about paul wellers music, much respect for the guy,hes a big influence, same soil-different flowers,pw has taken his own personal musical route of late and is still well liable to spit out red hot splinters of belief.i really feel the sons are not like any other band out there, how could they be,we say love it or leave it!so many bands out there, they just do the job, there alright, but so many theres just nothing to them, shallow music for shallow times maybee?
this isnt troubling me im just bored with celeb(?)rehab and those arse lickers and the lowlife that fuel it,its atention seeking of the most unpleasent kind, people deal with addictions etc in relative privacy,oh,the z-list mentality, the one second attention span.like i said the booze on the tube thing lately, its not even a happening its crap, nothing, yet people want that on youtube, fucks sake.
amusing and interesting stuff im watching of late,well,john sullivan,allways,plus all the classic comedy,plays,dramas you know,mr sugar,mr hunt,james corden and ruth jones-great writing,great cast,frankie boyle,mr gervais,etc,etc.
and stuff im into at present, well the jermyn street touch, the ivy league, music like, well, loadsa stuff, that way it comes out sounding like you, music hall,1940s,lounge music, calypso, rnb, fuzz, blue eyed soul, soul, psychedelia, the who then AND now,the small faces(thank you),ronnie lane, the beatles, the jam(thank you)party chambers, the bass counterpoint in classical music, andrew hill, pet sounds,a-tonal rhythmic pieces, trying to find good new artists on myspace and succeding.
some working lyrics that will be part of the new songs that werent ready for the RAK sessions ive included in the previous blog/post that contains the sons lyrics under (working)thats how it all comes about.to get into the spiritual for a moment i truely believe that everything in this amazing universe is vibration to be tuned to.
ah,come the glorious day brother/citizen...ECHOES...i saw him fight once,he was class..ECHOES...two-nil up at half time...ECHOES...but this is all reading a bit like a reggie perrin note, you know, desert boots and parka found at brighton beach, but surely not,i mean there was albert square on the tv then one minute im flying round st-james,all suit and bow tie ,the next im addidas and levis doing hand brake turns on her majestys secret supposedly...
ok
thanks to everyone its ever meant everything too, everyone its ever going to mean something too...here it comes...
So last thursday I supported one of Ireland's most popular singer/songwriters Declan O'Rourke in The Academy Dublin and it was great, loved every second of it and couldn't believe 30 minutes could go so quickly. Time flies when your having fun I suppose?!
The day itself was brutal, it rained all day and i'd been up since 7:30 that morning and was on the go all day, so there was no one more pleased than I was when I eventually got to the venue to sound check and settle into the night ahead. I was joined by some friends, Labhaoise my backing singer and Len who produced my EP, he was gonna take some pics and provide some moral support. Also in the venue was another friend Shane Brennan who was filming the night for both myself and Declan. Shane having a production company called Moondance Productions had 3 cameras set up and so when the results are ready I'll put something up here.
But I loved it, it went really well and the crowd gave me a very good welcome and alot of their attention. The venue itself holds 650 people and when I came on it looked quite full from where I was standing, so I said it on the night and I meant it........................ its really nice to actually play to somebody! My previous gig involved playing to 2 people, I kid you not, so if that night was swings I'll take the roundabouts.
Anyways I'll keep you posted anyways on the footage from it.
All the best

a while back someone emailed me sayin with a little care the sons could capture the hearts of a nation,i dont know this guy you understand but it hit home good and i thank him, when people say that, they mean it and it means the world to me.
im writing this because ive read the most depressing thing (for some)
(for some i suppose its good news if thats the type of music they make and become self sufficient,as for me i find the early buzz of a groups small following great, im just not into bands of musos that play in pubs and little festivals)the way i could see that working is if its got class like youd expect from a blues or jazz artist for example, the emphasis being on art.
art and excitement.
like ive said, the notion that its the blandest of all rocks to be washed up on...then punch harder,my real close made me laugh when he spoke of finding god in a punch bag...
the article went along the lines that music means not much to people, that its over, that the best to hope for is playing to small audiences and that even radio play and deals mean nothing.something tells me theres an element of truth in that, like in most things, but then NO.im still hearing songs on the radio that are world class.listening to records that sold hundreds of thousands, works of art.listening to records that sold a handfull, works of art.
i will always be into my culture, allways.
allways have,allways will.
one of the things that inspires this talk is music that just aint got a manifesto, that will be forgotten in a year involving people that its not that important to,because nothing is actually very important to them, sooooo ironic, get it?.NO i dont.
and at this point,at this moment in time, the sons are about something powerfull, fresh and important
Well, we're back in London after quite the week. Not sure how many miles we covered, but I think the side of my face still has an imprint of a car window on it. There were loads of highs (venue and alcohol induced) and amusements (twatish promoters and over-enthusiastic heroin fueled fans), but generally it was a very successful tour, despite Alexei losing his voice by the end of it and having to get by on a mixture of medicines.
Thanks very much to all those who managed to come down. We've come out of it all a lot closer together and with a new song which we'll be playing for the first time on the 7th July. We're now looking to get our heads down and start some serious writing so watch this space. We're all very excited about the upcoming months, which will also include some major gigs.
We're next playing on the 7th July as part of Brick Fest at 93 Feet East on London's Brick Lane. This should be a cracker as there'll be two other bands - Broken Stars and the Vibrants - as well as a number of comedians. All the profits are going to charity so, yes, we're playing the guilt card to get you down. :)
Tickets can be bought through us or here: http://www.93feeteast.co.uk/diary/index.cfm?View=Day&EventDate=2008-07-07 and a Facebook event for it at http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=511195809#/event.php?eid=31997766552&ref=share. Hopefully see you down there.
looking forward to this,a special solo set of sons songs until the trio line up is secured and the rickenbacker and vox stack are pluged in... Showcase55 07 Aug 2008, 20:00 The George and Vulture, 63 Pitfield St, Old Street, London and South East N1 6BU Cost : FREE

a word about paying for music...
the new material weve previewd exclusively on myspace and posted blogs about here will shortly be available for download at iTunes.
we hope you get over to iTunes via www.myspace.com/thesonsuk
the release should be in few weeks and get your ipods beating...
its simple,a good song at a decent price.
we really appreciate you listening and hope that its a two way thing, weve given the maximum effort in these songs and to recoup some costs would enable further recording and demoing(for an as yet unsigned and self sufficient band, thats a big as yet btw!) of even more new material(very excited about that, push further than whats out there is always a bands motive,or should be)
TA!

THE TITLE TRACK FROM OUR NEW E.P.-TELL US DOES IT TURN YOU ON!!
This is the new version of my song 'Things I've Said'. It has been mastered in New York City by Tom Durack who worked with B-52's (Loveshack), Lou Reed, They Might Be Giants to name a few.
hey!
not sure if that means alot to anyone but when Paul Weller was asked recently which song in the last 20 years (from another artist) he wished he'd written he said 'Galileo' by Declan O'Rourke.
anyways I get to support Declan next week in Dublin at The Academy on thursday the 26th June, so looking forward to it.

(it'll be a brown trousers night)
